Week Four Mesoskills Activity Guidelines
Overview: You will begin to learn mesoskills in this activity. You will need to consistently demonstrate these skills while working with clients as a counselor in training and in the field. Mesoskills connect with microskills to create a fluent counseling session.
Prompt: Watch the video Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy for Addictions with Albert Ellis and evaluate the mesoskills being presented.
In a journal assignment, explain how the counselor demonstrated the following mesoskills within the counseling session (use timestamps to indicate the time period in the video when each skill was demonstrated):
● Goal setting
● Focusing the counseling session
● Pacing/directing the counseling session
● Reflect on how Rational Emotive Behavior impacted how the counselor demonstrated the use of one of the mesoskills.
