Description
The first three essays will be based on reading one of the policy statements from the National Association of Social Workers Social Work Speaks (selected statements found in Blackboard) and at least one peer-reviewed journal article selected by you (you will locate the journal article). You will select and read one of the policy statements for each essay. You will then read one peer reviewed article which directly relates to the policy statement. You can choose an article from the reference list at the end of each Policy Statement, or you can search for an article on your own.
The policy statements clearly outline the position of NASW, one of the national social work professional organizations, on pressing professional and policy issues. You should read each essay and journal article through the lens of a social work professional, and examine how your personal values, beliefs, and practices align, intersect or diverge from the professional statement. You should also discuss how the peer reviewed article informs the policy statement. Discuss what you learned from the statement and article. Is the statement and article still current?
The purpose of this assignment is to elicit critical thinking about the issue area. You do not have to wholly agree with the policy statements or articles, but you do need to understand the position of the profession and process how your personal views may impact your professional interactions and judgments.
Each of these essays must be a minimum of 2 pages, and no more than 3 pages of typed text with a cover page included. It must be double-spaced in Times New Roman or Arial 12 point font size with standard margins. Proper citations must be provided for any sources that are paraphrased or quoted.
