COMU1152 – Public Relations Writing
Portfolio of Public Relations Tools for Organisation – Part 1

(Max 3,500 words in total)

You are to research and prepare a portfolio of corporate public relations tools for a client organisation.

Details on this client organisation will be provided in classes, and information will be posted on the course Blackboard.

A client brief will be provided in the lecture, and client feedback will also be incorporated in the lecture series.

Instructions:

1. Commence each item in this assignment on a new page. Place the items in the order listed below.
2. Submit ONE file to the course Blackboard. PDF format is preferred – so that formatting within the documents
holds firm. If the items are created as separate documents, use a program like Adobe to merge files, or a free
online PDF merge tool. (Mac users can drag and drop pages from PDF files to make one master PDF – use
thumbnails view.)

3. If the ONE file being lodged to the course Blackboard is too large to upload, first ZIP the file, then upload.

4. Where information in the tool is sourced from the SSR website, there is no need to provide references in
the tools. All other sourced information will need to have sources acknowledged. Use a method such as
placing an asterisk near the sourced information and give the source/s at the bottom of the page in small
font.

Where a number of sources have been used, use a method such as a series of footnote markers (e.g.
i, ii, iii) and list the sources in small font at the bottom of the page (OR for factsheet and FAQ a reference
list could be included in small font at the end of the tool).

5. For content such as the client organisation’s mission statement, vision, etc. there is no need to create new
statements. The existing SSR mission/vision etc. (as given on the organisation’s website and in other
organisational sources) may be used.

6. Consider using a theme, unifying concept, or a slogan as a way of giving a clear focus to the portfolio of
tools (and each of the tools). This is also an effective technique to guide the structure within each tool. This
is particularly helpful in a brochure.

7. If the client organisation has already developed a tag-line (which would perform the function of a slogan),
use that. If you nevertheless wish to develop a slogan beyond this, it should be complementary to the
organisation’s tag-line.

8. Where images in the tools are sourced from the SSR website and/or media, there is no need to provide
references in the tools.

9. All other sourced images need to be free stock images which have the source listed immediately under the
image in small font (5 pt.). You may use images you created (such as a photograph you have taken) which
do not feature a person and so do not require permission for use – and by incorporating these images you
are giving over any rights for this image to the client permission to use for free.
