1) Why role have factors such as the Civil War Reconstruction Amendments (13th, 14th, 15th ) the composition and policies of the federal government and the courts played in the struggle to advance voting and civil rights in the US?
Explain the significance of:

2) What has been the legacy of the continuation of a second period of legalized neo-slavery – that only ended in WWII?
● How has the denial of human, civil and legal rights provided the historical context for understanding the events we all witnessed in 2020, and the rise of America’s largest multiracial protest movement for racial equality and justice?
● Provide evidence regarding the legacies of American slavery and the forcible deprivation of life, labor, and property (1619 – 1865) and (1870 – 1945), which include:
○ Suppression of voting, legal rights, and political representation
○ Policing practices and the criminal justice system
○ Extra-judicial violence and intimidation by white supremacist organizations
○ Discrimination in education, hiring, employment, ability to raise capital and own property, and redlining in housing
○ Stereotypes, implicit biases, assumptions of criminality
○ Extreme economic and health inequalities

● How are people mobilizing to promote equity, individual and building community resilience?

● What evidence and tactics do they use? Include methods of increasing public awareness and political pressure.

● How do they coordinate with others to create a movement for change?
