Philosophy Assignment Directions
All students must complete 1,2, and 3, and they must complete the Assignments below. When submitting your work, indicate the assignment below.
1. All written work must follow APA guidelines(follow the format provided) (Assignment One Only) and be submitted on Blackboard.
2. Complete the Educational Philosophies Self-Assessment Survey.
3. Read Chapter 5 – taking careful notes. How do the Educational Philosophies of,
Essentialism, Perennialism, Progressivism, and Social Reconstructionism/Critical Pedagogy impact given aspects of contemporary education? Furthermore, what is the role of the four main Psychology Stances on human development and learning that inform education: Information Processing, Behaviorism, Constructivism/ Cognitivism, and Humanism?
Assignment One:
Read the selected article by Peter Gibbon. Article is posted on Blackboard.
Things you may consider:
a) What are the implications for education?
b) How might this affect school policy?
c) What does it mean for student learning?
d) What quotes are you using to explain or support your reflection?
You are not going to be able to address all of these in any depth.
They are things to consider.
Now, think about how you can focus on one or two of these to form a thesis for a well- developed paper. For example, you might reflect on what the article shows about student learning. It’s your choice. However, your paper must also integrate information from your survey results and the philosophies we have studied in the chapter. Show me that you have an understanding of the philosophies and psychological stances as they apply to education. (See #3 Above) Paper should be no more than three pages.
