Task
• PRACTICAL TASK: A4 Poster
Using Adobe Photoshop, produce either:
• a cover for an existing book of your choice
• a poster for an existing film of your choice.
Note that we want to see your own creative and alternative design – not a copy of the
original.
Both designs should use the dimensions given below and be exported for both print and web in their relevant colour spaces:
• You must produce an A4 poster with a 3mm bleed around all edges (portrait or landscape, depending on it being a film poster or a book cover, respectively)
(LO3).
• You must save this as a PDF for print, in which case the colour mode should be set to CMYK on export (LO5).
• You must export a web size JPEG version with a long edge size of 1200px. This should be exported with an RGB profile (LO5).
• You should aim to include these things within your design (LO4):
• Use of Text – edited and transformed.
• Use of shape and or paths
• Use of gradients/transparency/stroke
• Use of layers, layer masks and layer styles.
• PRESENTATION
You will create a 10-minute presentation (max.). This must be a narrated PowerPoint. (Details on how to do this can be found on your module reading list.)
Your presentation must cover the following:
• Your understanding of the brief – content and purpose (LO1).
• The research you have carried out and how it has informed the development of your own work – target audience and their needs (LO1).
• The research you have carried out and how it meets the codes and conventions of the genre of book/film it is promoting, with the identification of design principles and elements (LO2).
• The development of your own work – technical and aesthetics (LO2 & LO4).
• Photoshop techniques used – to be discussed in stages. You must include print screens of your process and main actions to demonstrate knowledge of the software features and of digital image manipulation (LO3 & LO4).
• Final outcome and its effectiveness.
• a list of references, in the APA referencing style, that must include a reference for each of the images you have used in your final poster/book cover. This should be the last slide(s) of your presentation. You can find information on how to reference on Aula and in your Module Guide.
