Topic: Critical Analysis report of a document attached, Need to write about communication research methods used and critique the application of those methods.
A critique is a careful analysis of an argument to determine what is said, how well the information is presented, what assumptions underlie the argument, what issues are overlooked, and what implications are drawn from such observations. It is a systematic, carefully considered response and evaluation of what you read.
It is NOT a descriptive account of what is being represented, but a detailed analysis that articulates strengths and weaknesses of the subject, drawing on further research, critical assessment and applied knowledge.
For the research report critique, you must build upon feedback from the theoretical reflections from assessment one to produce a detailed critical analysis of the report with a primary focus on the research problem, the research methodology and methods used in the report, and the validity and value of the report’s findings and recommendations.
Assessment instructions
The report should be structured in the following manner:
⦁ An executive summary that provides:
⦁ an overview/synopsis of the whole report; and
⦁ main issues, and any recommendations and findings in brief.
⦁ An introduction that discusses:
⦁ the research problem or issue that the report addresses; with a detailed explanation of its importance/relevance to the industry sector the report is based in and wider societal issues.
⦁ Identification of the various research methods used in the report.
⦁ A body section that:
⦁ assesses the methodological validity of the data presented using those methods
⦁ assesses the authority/credibility of other sources of information in the report, and authorship of the knowledge presented.
⦁ analyses the analytical content of the report – how well does the report answer the defined research problem and research questions?
⦁ explains the value of the report findings and any recommendations to at least one industry and a specific stakeholder.
⦁ critically reviews the presentation elements of the report – visual elements, written expression, use of graphics, additional media elements e.g. website, media releases etc.
⦁ explains how effectively these elements communicate the research issue, methodology, analysis and findings.
⦁ incorporates in the discussion/analysis/critique of the report at least 6 references to relevant academic or industry sources. These references should be in addition to course readings and should come from relevant authoritative sources.
⦁ A conclusion that draws together the key ideas discussed in the body section and brings the critique to a clear and logical close.
