ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
Read the Emilia Sanchez case file
Read the handout on: Social Learning Theory, Erikson’s Theory, and Humanistic and Existentialism Theories
Then answer the following questions keeping in mind all 3 theories/perspectives
a. Briefly describe the problems on which you’re focusing regarding the family member you have chosen.
b. Describe how you would perceive the family member and their concerns through the lens of each theory you chose. Make sure you are being detailed enough to capture the essence of the theory.
c. Briefly discuss how you would develop an intervention that is based on each theory.
d. Discuss how the understanding of the family member, your perspective on his/her problems, and your selection of interventions differ when looking at the situation from the perspective of each theory.
e. Discuss some of the strengths and limitations to working with the family member from each perspective. How might you consider other theories and/ or approaches in order to complement your understanding?
f. Which approach do you think you would take with the family member and why?
