TASK DESCRIPTION
Select the work of two of the individuals covered from Plato to Kant. Compare and evaluate the ideas of the philosophers.
Compare means to demonstrate your understanding of their theories – what they have in common, what is different, their intellectual relationship and their impact.
Evaluate means that you critically assess the validity of their idea(s) and select which one you find more convincing and explain why you made that choice.
This 2,500 word essay is submitted via Turnitin (on blackboard). It must contained a properly structured essay with correct references and a bibliography.
MODULE OUTCOMES
By the end of this module students are expected to:
Demonstrate a factual knowledge and conceptual understanding of the main philosophical theories associated with classical Western thought
Demonstrate a competent level of skill in describing and analysing some features of key movements in thought from the classical period to contemporary time
Gain experience of and develop their skills in a range of necessary study skills – use of sources, taking and keeping notes, development of lines of argument, research practices, following lines of enquiry and independent critical thought.
