Assessment Description

The module is assessed by each student producing a 15 Minute, 15 Slide Annotated PowerPoint.

Ensure that your sound media and PowerPoint package are compatible with those used by the university.

Select an example of leadership that they have witnessed in their practice experience.

The choice of an appropriate scenario is key

Select a scenario which will ensure you address the Learning Outcomes

The scenario must be one where leadership is witnessed not where you were the leader.  We learn better from examples of good practice.

Agree it with your Personal Tutor

It is necessary to explain the facts surrounding the chosen scenario where the student his able to sufficiently establish the context and background of the example of leadership.

When selecting the example to use as the focus for this assignment it is necessary that multiple individuals are involved.

Analysis ( Level 6 academic skill)

Within the presentation it is expected that students will discuss, analyse and consider the following aspects.

Leadership as applied to the NHS.
One style of Leadership
Any behaviour/trait associated with that style of leadership
The use of communication and interpersonal skills to carry out leadership.
The decisions making process exhibited by the leader.

Slides 5-7 Relate theory to practice in these slides

These slides are required to be directly related to the scenario. the theory must be explored in the context of the scenario.

The content of these slides will depend very much on the chosen scenario and may differ from student to student

Relate the chosen style of leadership to the example identified in slide 2.

Select specific aspects from the scenario which are consistent with the theory.

Critique the theory and consider strengths and weaknesses with examples for the scenario.

Slides 8-9 Personal Learning and Future Development

Offer summaries of key personal learning emerging from the example.
Identify how this will inform the student’s practice now, and in the future.
An action plan may be used in slide 9 however it is not essential

An overview of the content, to demonstrate skills in structuring academic work.

This should consist only of the references used in the Annotated PowerPoint, formatted in accordance with the Harvard system.
