Topic: Journal speaking about the two sides of liberty
Paper details:
Topic: America’s national anthem declares America “the land of the free” but scholars disagree about how to interpret liberty and freedom in America historically. Do we see a “steady march toward greater liberty” or do we see recurring periods in which freedoms are lost and won? Discuss in your answer the two sides of liberty.
Instructions:
1.) Write the question in your Journal.
2.)Find the chapters, pages in our main textbook and, if applicable, in the Lanahan Readings, that will help you formulating an answer to the question you chose. Name the chapters, sections in the chapters and page numbers.
3.)After re-reading some pages and recalling the earlier materials, make an initial list of five ingredients that your answer to the question should contain. You can use bullet points.
4.)Search up “Law and Government” and choose one specific database. For example JSTOR and make a list of at least 5 search terms that could result in sources (articles, chapters, reports) that discuss the topic of the question you chose.
5.)Application of Concepts:
Especially if you have a lot of search results, start narrowing down. For example, you may want to focus on the most recent articles and not articles that were written, say 50 years ago.
You also want to make sure that you have access to the full text of an article, not just the summary. Addittionally, the sources should focus on politics in the United States and not another country.
6.)Pick 3 search results and describe shortly why these three sources will help you answering your question.
The minimum length of a journal is 350 words. The maximum lengcgoth of a journal is 700 words.
