The role of the Islamic education in promoting Saudi women’s rights

According to Cesari (2017) “Muslim women’s rights are shaped by the interplay between State-Islam and social interactions. The three power dynamics provide a theoretical framework for understanding the advancing of women’s rights in Muslim countries, particularly in Saudi Arabia”.
1- “Islam has been the only law governing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since it was established. Islam has promoted women’s rights since the revelation of the Qur’an in the time of Muhammad (PBUH). Muslim scholars also emphasise the historical development of women’s rights in the context of pre-modern tribal societies. Still, the development of Islamic political systems from medieval to pre-modern times led to the exclusion and seclusion of women”.
2- “The state today has become a central factor – if not the most important – in redefining Islamic traditions, leading to the reshaping of Islamic norms and impacting women’s rights”.
3- “Saudi Society reinforces in the individual a set of culturally built values from both Islamic law (Sharia), such as the concept of equality. And from the tribal customs and norms that might create social traditions such as patriarchal authority”.
“At the same time, state policies are increasingly challenged by transnational ideas and agents influencing national contexts of Islamic countries, such as international conferences, for example, the CEDAW.
However, the religious norms and references are mainly in control, especially when global communication and the rapid circulation of ideas fuel the debate about women’s rights”.
