Meantime, some more general advice as quite a few of you have already started your assignment.
Patch 1 Review one research article that explores the values and/or ethical principles involved in the promotion of self-management for people one or more long-term conditions.
You can choose a one (or more) LTCs that interest you here. So, use the databases via the Library to search for a research article (this might be qualitative, or quantitative or mixed methods). You might search using terms such as: “kidney disease”; “self-management”; nursing and/or paramedic role. Or you might use another combination of words. The trick here is to access the databases, develop your search terms and see what you come up with. Then, your task is to review the article.
What did the research try to do and how? What was the questions they were exploring?
What did they find?
What was the value of self-management and/or what were the principles involved?
Patch 2 Discuss the leadership role of the healthcare professional in promoting and facilitating self-management in people with one or more long-term conditions.
This is quite a general patch and some questions you could think about to help you include:
Why is leadership important?
How can good leadership promote and support self-management?
What strategies can be used?
Patch 3 With reference to a chosen long-term condition, discuss the key principles of drug action, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics for people with long term conditions.
Important: this refers to ‘a’ chosen long-term condition. This does not have to be the same LTC you referred to in Patch 1. This gives you the opportunity to explore different LTCs that might interest you.
Patches 4 and 5?
There is clear guidance, information and advice for you in Week 22 (remember to fully review 22.1, 22.2 and 22.3) before you view the example at the end.
Completing each patch?
The description of the content required for each patch is detailed below.
Patch 1
Review one research article that explores the values and/or ethical principles involved in the promotion of self-management for people living with one or more long term conditions.
Patch 2
Discuss the leadership role of the healthcare professional in promoting and facilitating self-management in people with long term conditions.
Patch 3
With reference to a chosen long-term condition, describe the key principles of drug action, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.
Patch 4
Describe one national policy/framework which supports the effective long-term management of physical and/or psychological health for people living with one or more long-term conditions.
Patch 5
The final patch is a summary of the first 4 patches. The content/summary for this final patch should draw the main connections and themes together from Patches 1-4 and clearly highlight how this new knowledge might inform or be applied to your professional and/or clinical practice.
Important
Each patch should be 500 words (+/- 10%).
Patches 1-4 should be clearly supported by evidence/references from the wider literature.
Patch 5 is a summary and does not require evidence/references from the wider literature.
Total word count for all 5 patches together is 2500 words (+/- 10%).
Reference list is not included in the final word count.
