Tour
You will be required to take a tour of a nearby airport fire fighting facility. During your visit, you will gather information on the facility’s approaches to response planning, mutual aid agreements, extinguishing agents, equipment, staffing, airport category and support, and firefighter training.
Along with the gathered information, you may use these questions as a template:
Where is the general vicinity of the airport in relation to city, county, and local areas?
What is the Airport/ARFF index that is required for this airport?
Has there been a time when the ARFF Index dropped below the airport requirements? If so, why, and how was it addressed?
What are the staffing, equipment, and agent requirements for the airport?
What is the critical aircraft for this airport?
What is the largest aircraft in use at the airport?
Have there been any Alert II or Alert III incidents in the past 6 months? Describe them, and explain how ARFF responded. If able, is a post-accident report available?
What do ARFF personnel foresee for near-term challenges? Long-term?
