French Revolution
Description
Primary sources provide the raw materials for the writing of history. The goal of this task is to use your interpretative skills to draw meaning – as much as possible – out of a particular source and use it to say something interesting about the French Revolution.
This task requires you to:
1. Analyse the ‘declaration of the rights of man 1789″ and explain its importance and usefulness as evidence for historians, as well as limitations or any issues that require care on the part of the historian to avoid misinterpretation.
The question that should drive the planning and execution of this task is: What can this source tell an historian of the French Revolution? In other words, what research question about the French Revolution might this source help to answer?
2. Support your claims using secondary evidence. While your response centre upon analysis of the primary source. You will likely need to make minimal reference to other sources (primary and secondary). Where you do reference other sources, please include footnotes and be sure to include them in your brief bibliography.
4. Follow the steps below to produce a response in essay format (i.e. double-spaced, 12 point font, pages numbered, an introduction, thesis statement and paragraphs, and a very brief bibliography)
