Read “Housing Needs Assessment”Actions (three pages)
Mallach, Alan. The Empty House Next Door: Understanding and Reducing Vacancy and Hypervacancy in the United States.Actions Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, 2018.
Read the Executive Summary, Introduction, Chapter 2, and Chapter 3 (pages 3-20)
1. After reading the Steiner and Butler reading, come up with an example of a reason that a community in New Jersey might want to conduct a housing needs assessment? How would the results of this assessment be useful in achieving a planning goal?
2. What is one thing that you learned about home vacancy that you didn’t know before after reading the Mallach reading?
3. Is there anything in either reading that doesn’t make sense to you?
