Pick a population it might be challenging to work with either because of limited exposure to the group or because of your personal values and beliefs.
Pick one of the following populations in the United States to research:
Families of African, Arab, Asian, Latin-American, Native American, European, or multiracial descent and narrow it down. Students can narrow topics by gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, spirituality, age, ability status, etc.
Examples of narrowing down topic include adolescent, gay, males, of African descent, or adult, females who experienced sexual abuse of European descent or disabled, adult, male, military veterans of Asian descent, etc.
The six required headings are:
1. Diversity, American Counseling Association, 2014 Code of Ethics.Briefly cite and cover the specific sections that may apply to population.
2. Demographics (what portion of the United States population is made of this group),
3. Cultural Heritage, Beliefs and Values (specific beliefs and values common to population),
4. Challenges Common to this Population (reoccurring themes or issues this group has to deal with),
5.Counseling Theory Proven Effective (best practice theories and techniques to use),
6. Impact of Clients’ Cultural Identities on Clients’ Educational Process (challenges that might impact educational process). The required length of the paper is 10-12 pages total.
The style of paper is APA 7th Edition. Required references include five professional counseling, peer-reviewed articles from the last 15 years (no articles from earlier than 2006).
