3. Discuss and give a breakdown of each of the three factors to justify the final diagnosis of Parasomnias and Insomnia Disorders for Allison.
4. Review the DSM 5 criteria for the diagnosis given. Do you agree with the diagnosis? Why or why not? Locate at least one scholarly article regarding the diagnosis. How does the information in the article align with or differ from the information in the DSM 5 and in your chosen case?
Allison
Allison is a 6-year-old Caucasian girl who wets the bed almost every night. Her mother is very frustrated, stating that this did not occur with the older siblings whom she potty trained the same way. Allison’s father is much more compassionate, reporting that he had the same issues as a child and understands how difficult this must be for Allison.
Her parents have brought her to counseling because she cries all morning after the accidents, and they have trouble getting her to go to school. Furthermore, Allison tells you that she had a friend stay over at her house and she wet the bed that night. The friend found out and told other students, who now tease her.
Allison and her parents deny any history of physical or sexual abuse. She is not on medications but hasn’t been to a medical doctor in 2 years. She has never been to therapy before and performs very well in school. However, her grades are beginning to suffer because of chronic tardiness. She has begun refusing to talk to her classmates. • • •
