Part 1:
Based on your group assignment (1984-1987, New York Times, Iraq) identify Primary Sources (specific items) in ProQuest Historical Newspapers and decide how you will focus your research.
In the unlikely event you find nothing in the historical newspaper you’ve been assigned, you may consider searching the other “Optional” resources listed above.
In your description of your research describe the search terms you employed and why you decided to focus on the sources you’ve selected. Provide a selected list (bibliography) that highlights the kind of primary sources you’ve found and will use in your paper.
In addition to the bibliography, write up a short description of your research process (methodology).
What search terms did you use? Why did you include the sources you did on your list?
This description should be no more than 300 words.
It is understood that your list of primary sources will be revised in Part II — consider the Part I list to be preliminary.
Your primary sources should be organized under headings: British Foreign Office (only if utilized), and the name of the newspaper you’ve been assigned. Format all aspects of your bibliography and (later) footnotes in Chicago Manual of Style format. Here is a link to a Quick Guide for the “Notes and Bibliography” style.
Part 2.
Identify Academic Research via JSTOR and assigned course readings that you will include to contextualize your primary sources, revise your list of primary sources and preliminary argument.
In this part of the assignment, you should also indicate how the JSTOR article provides additional context and/or how your primary research provides context to understand the academic sources you have found.
Your updated bibliography should now include Secondary Sources, with the sub-headings of Books and Academic Articles. The update on your progress should, again, be about 300 words.
