FORMAL ESSAY OPTION
Choose a topic of interest in the area of dress practices and the body. Topics must relate to notions of
identity in some way, either individual, or communal. Your topic can be historical, and/or contemporary in
focus.
Your paper should include a clear topic, evidence of critical thinking, visual analysis of a chosen
image or set of images, and a clearly articulated argument or perspective. You should consult and refer to
academic research to support your argument.
Submission Details
-5-6 pages, 12-font, double-spaced (not including bibliography, images and/or foot-notes)
-MLA or Chicago style citation method preferred, although APA is acceptable. For APA, please include page numbers in all in-text citations where possible.
-All research sources must be properly cited both in text, and at the end of the paper as a bibliography or
works cited list.
-Historical topics should mostly utilize academic sources; contemporary topics may include art criticism,
journalism, and museum/institutional sites and other popular sources (if appropriate).
