For each of the 4 images you see:
1) Describe how the image makes you feel. What thoughts, memories, or ideas come to mind when you look at the image? List the specific emotions that you feel.
2) These images are used in research studies to evoke specific emotions. Describe what specific emotion you think each image is trying to evoke (e.g., joy). What are ways you can tell that people are feeling this specific emotion? For example, what happens to people’s faces when they feel this emotion? What happens to their voice? What happens to their body posture?
3) Pretend you are a researcher and you are trying to predict what emotions the people in your research study are feeling. Come up with a coding scheme to measure how the participants in your study are feeling.
Be sure to think about what indicators of emotion you would look for in order to tell if someone is feeling fear vs. sadness vs. disgust vs. joy. Lastly, describe some challenges you might run into in predicting what emotions people are feeling from their videotaped behaviors.
