Spirituality and Social Work
INSTRUCTIONS:
Select a client you have worked with, one that you are working with currently, or make up a client you would want to work with. For those of you who are in Nonprofit and Public Management, you might think about how integrating spirituality into your organization could possibly change the work environment, increase morale, or raise worker productivity. The major focus of this paper is to describe how you would, are or did utilize spirituality in working with the client.
In developing the paper, you must utilize materials from this course and outside articles or journals that you may find on a specific area of spirituality and social work practice. Remember to cite all work that is not original with you with appropriate references. There should be 3-5 sources and you can certainly go beyond 5. Also be sure to include a bibliography in your paper. (APA format is required)
Your paper should be 8 pages, not to exceed and 10. type written pages (not including title page, abstract, references bibliography and appendices.)
Be sure to utilize 12-pitch font. In addition, please double-space your paper. Please adhere to good grammar and style in that this is a formal paper. If you have faith/spiritual genograms/ecograms/life maps, include these in your appendix. Please include abstract and reference pages.
Introduction: (1 -2pages)
Based on materials you have read briefly put forth your understanding of the value of utilizing spirituality in social work practice. Here please base your position on information you have gleaned from the readings and from class discussion. Be sure to substantiate your work through the use of citations
Assessment: (2-3 pages)
What is the problem for work that you and the client are addressing? Here you will want to briefly describe the presenting problem and some of the history surrounding it. Here you will also discuss how spirituality is germane to the work you are doing with the client. This should include how you used an existing spiritual history intake or what you would use to take a spiritual history, or whatever means you utilized to determine if addressing spirituality is or is not appropriate. Also, in this section you will explain how spirituality presents itself as conflict or as strength.
Intervention: (2 -3pages)
In this section discuss the techniques that you utilized in using spirituality in your work with the client. Here you will want to discuss a particular technique(s) (guided imagery, prayer, pilgrimage, spiritual life map/genogram or ecomap, etc) you used or would use with the client. You might use short portions of process recordings, a life map, etc or some other means to demonstrate the method of intervention. In discussing the intervention, you would use, be sure to integrate materials from the course to support your choice of intervention.
Outcome(s): The Competencies (1-2 pages)
In this section discuss the progress that was/has been/could be made in the work with your client. Be sure to evaluate your work critically. It is not important whether the intervention was a success or not, what is important is that you examine the process from a critical perspective.
Apply and discuss at least two of the competencies.
Must give the specific code number and state what it says and how you applied it.
