Summative assessment (Marked or graded for the module)

The assessment is in two parts.

Part 1 (LO1)

Demonstration of the ability to offer a person-centred counselling relationship based on congruence, unconditional positive regard and empathy in a 20min taped audio recording. The counselling session may have taken place face-to-face or remotely.

If in placement and with appropriate consent the student should provide a recording from placement, otherwise a peer session can be used. If using a peer session this cannot be a session where formative tutor feedback has already been given.

Part 2 (LOs 2/3 and 4)

A transcription of the session accompanied by a 2500 word process/analysis examination of the 20minute audio recording in Part 1 relating theory to practice. (The transcription does not form part of the word count). The process/analysis section should contain references to person-centred theory, this may include citations and/or direct quotes.

For a remote counselling session knowledge of the BACP Online and Phone Therapy competency framework should also be shown. A word count for the process/analysis section should be provided and a reference list should be provided at the end.
