Immigration
The Prompt for the discussion post:
Consider a hypothetical nation that has very stringent, near-impossible standards for immigration there. Lately this nation has seen an increase in illegal immigration, but also a booming economy, as these workers contribute to a robust demand for output and pay taxes without receiving social services. In your opinion, should the nation deport these illegal immigrants when identified?
Notes:
1. Cases where the law and economic efficiency contradict each other can be especially difficult for policymakers.
2. “When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God.” (Leviticus 19:33-34 NIV)
