Instructions
The purpose of this assignment is to give students the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to apply the initial steps in the evidence-based practice process. Students discuss a practice need, search for evidence, and critically appraise the evidence they find.
Assignment Requirements:
Title page (name, student number, university name…see APA 7th edition formatting; title and reference pages not included in total page requirement). Write a minimum of 4 pages to 5 pages paper (over or under one paragraph) – double-spaced, 12-point Times Roman font, one-inch margins, no justification of text, not including references or title page).
1. Describe a practice problem: e.g., lack of mental health services for individuals who have depression.
2. Describe the problem’s severity
3. Describe the cost to society – e.g., what happens in society when there are not enough mental health services for individuals who have depression
4. Consequences in relation to the functioning of all levels of practice. In other words, how does this particular problem affect social work practice.
5. Description of the practice need and its relevance to social workers. In other words, why are those specific interventions, programs or policies required in relation to social work practice and social workers?
6. Formulate a question to answer a practice need. (This is step 1 in the evidence-based practice process that is described in chapter 2 pages 26, 27) e.g., what type of intervention, program or policy would benefit individuals who have mental health issues such as depression?
7. Write a critical analysis (good or bad) of the evidence (your peer-reviewed articles) that was found from your research e.g., articles on depression and services, depression and policies, depression and programs, what did the evidence show?
8. Consider future steps in addressing this need and make recommendations for practice.
