Description
Like many other areas of Psychology, Social Psychology for a long time has been defined by the research methods used. Consequently, much of the foundational work in Social Psychology has been done using experimental design. The choice of experimental design as the design of choice reflected the belief that in order to truly understand the dynamics of social interaction and their relationship to the outside world, that the scientist must be able to isolate variables within an experimental context so as to gain a greater understanding of the exact mechanisms by which social context influence/interacts with individual and group behavior.
Many of the core theories of mainstream Social Psychology have been constructed upon a foundation of experimental research. In general, mainstream Social Psychology has been defined almost solely by the use of quantitative methods and the use of statistical techniques, such as analysis of variance, regression analysis, confirmatory and exploratory factor analysis. The readings in this part of the course introduce you to the mechanics of experimental and survey methodology, particularly as they apply to the domain of Social Psychology.
Assignment:
Evaluate one Social Psychological study from one of the Journals listed below.
Answer the following questions:
What is the research question in the study? What design is used in the study? Is the design of the study well suited to answer the research question? Is the research generalizable?
What are the measurement concerns in the study? What are the strengths and weaknesses of the study? Draw specifically from the readings for this section. Please include with your paper a copy the article you reviewed.
Your paper should be 4-5-double spaced pages of content, one inch margins, 12 point font, and the use of proper APA citations and References for the text book and core Social Psychology Journal.
Should also have a separate Title Page and a separate Reference page.
