Guidance on Marketplace Simulation Presentation
Part 1:
Introduction – Be sure to introduce your team members and your company.
• An overview of your current company – You may want to tell us your current
mission and strategic priorities. Note if these have changed over the past year.
Explain why you were able to achieve or not achieve your goals — what were
the causes of your better or weaker than expected performance?
Part 2:
Discuss the year in general highlighting the key events that occurred during
the period. This is usually only a few sentences and usually sets the tone for the rest of
the letter.
The Environment
Using the various tools that we discussed in the class, discuss the internal and external
environment your firm operates in. You should discuss the competitive environment of
your industry and how you positioned your firm to compete in this environment.
• Did your company have a competitive advantage or disadvantage in its primary
industry? What are the distinctive competencies of your company?
• Did you have to build new competencies in order to compete successfully in the
industry? If so what are these competencies? Are they sustainable?
• What are the barriers to imitating the distinctive competencies of your
company?
