2. Briefly discuss the (1) the economic importance of forests; (2) the ecological importance of forests.
3. Based on Anderson and Moratto, how were healthy forests important to the livelihoods of California Indians? What uses did forests have? List and briefly discuss 3 management practices of California Indians. Which of these are potentially useful in forest management now?
4. Kelsey discusses two “ecological practices” for managing forests in the Sierra Nevada. What are these? How do they differ from present practices?5. Based on all the readings and other source material, identify and briefly discuss at least 3 policy issues associated with managing and restoring California forests. What are the barriers to the implementation of the policies you have identified?
