Film discussions are open for a limited time. Once the discussion closes, you may no longer post threads or replies, but you will be able to read the discussion.
Your initial thread post is the due date as listed on the Calendar, but the discussion is opened earlier and closes later so that you may post all of your responses to other threads by the end of the discussion period.
For this and all future discussions, you will be graded on the following:
A. Post in the forum by providing a brief analysis along with your ideas and questions.
An analysis is a description and tentative explanation of events or situations found in the film.
You will lose points if your first post is overly long, providing only a summary but not an idea or question of your own.
B. Respond thoughtfully to other students’ posts. As a discussant, you are to post thoughtful answers to other people’s threads. Thoughtful answers bring in analysis, more information from the film, articles or the text book, and extend the discussion. These replies are part of your grade.
Reactions or opinions are not the same as thoughts. Thoughts apply reasoning and critique; reactions and opinions are judgments or emotional responses that do little to advance an analysis unless they are accompanied by reasoning.
