History and Background and the Present/Future of Knives Out
When Knives Out was first released in the US in the winter of 2019, there was so much excitement and such a flood of rave reviews that there was talk even of a possible Oscar nomination for Best Picture. While this movie eventually got crowded out of that top nomination field by other holiday releases, Knives Out was still instrumental in introducing a non-niche audience to the delights of old-fashioned murder mysteries, with a contemporary twist.

A) History and Background?: Rian Johnson apparently wanted to create an Agatha Christie-like mystery when he started this project. Can you find out something about the inspiration for Knives Out and some background information about how this movie came to be?
B) Present/Future?: With a release date of December 23, 2022, a second Knives Out movie is obviously a very contemporary work. Can you conduct some research about how the sequel came to be and some themes and issues and characters we can expect to see treated in this second installment?
