Lab Format Guidelines: Urine and BUN
1. Cover sheet (5 points) – Include your first and last name, names of lab partners, date, lab exercise name and title, NFS 3101.01.
2. Objectives (5 points) – Restate the objectives using your own words.
3. Raw data (10 points) – Include completed data tables for this lab.
4. Calculations (25 points) – Show calculations for Blood Urea Nitrogen, Urinary Urea Nitrogen (twice – once with the formula from the standard curve and once with the absorbance formula given on the calculations page), and 24-hour Urinary Urea Nitrogen (g/day).
5. Conclusions (15 points) – Discuss the results of the lab. What were the values of your BUN, UUN, and 24-Hour Urinary Urea Nitrogen (g/day). Were they high, low, or normal? Why? Discuss conditions that may have affected these numbers i.e. impaired liver function or kidney function. function. Did your values for UUN differ based on whether you used the absorbance formula or the standard curve formula?
6. Assessment (5 points) – Discuss the new things that you learned in the lab and the interesting things that you found. This should contain at least 3 different items to receive full credit.
7. Standard Curve (15 points) – Create a standard curve and use the formula to determine UUN. Make sure that you put the standard curve in your lab report and that the formula is on it for full credit.
