For this unit’s second discussion assignment, you are being asked to engage in a reflective exercise. Now that you are nearing the conclusion of the course, I would like for you to discuss just how prepared you feel you are in terms of addressing each outcome. If you believe there are certain outcomes which you’re still not as comfortable with, what specific steps (or actions) will you take outside of this course to strengthen these areas? Demonstrate an understanding of the strategic role of operations management in crafting and enhancing a firm’s competitive advantages.
Defend the interdependence of the operations function with the other key functional areas within firms: finance, marketing, organization, corporate governance, etc.
Recognize opportunities to improve operations and the potential barriers to creating value.
Analyze operations using a system’s engineering perspective and apply tools and techniques associated with quality management and operations research modeling methods .
Interpret model output to assess processes and outcomes and the potential impact of proposed operational changes on systems performance.
Design and execute a project using the key phases of project management .
Develop information feedback systems to monitor and improve processes and outcomes, including the ability to provide visualization of the data to support end user decision-making.
