Develop a policy brief that recommends support for or opposition to your chosen bill.

Search the list of bills filed in the regular 2022 session of the Colorado Legislature . Note that this session was open during the first 4 months of 2022 but is now closed.  Choose a bill that you want to focus on for your policy brief – it can be one that passed or one that failed.  You can browse these bills by subject, such as “Health Care and Health Insurance” or “Public Health.” Make sure to choose a bill that has implications for health.  A link to all bills filed in this session is here: https://leg.colorado.gov/bills  Do your basic homework on the bill you choose, including reviewing the bill sponsors, reading the bill text to understand the main components, and reviewing what happened to the bill .
Develop a policy brief that recommends support for or opposition to your chosen bill. Your primary target audience for this brief is the Colorado Legislature, including bill sponsors, other elected legislators, and legislative staff.  You should also consider relevant interest groups and lobbyists as secondary audiences for your brief.  Remember that “brief” means short and fast.  You will need to work quickly and do the best you can with limited time and information.
Make sure to draw upon relevant policy concepts and principles you have been learning about in readings and lectures when developing your brief, such as Tom Oliver’s Framework for Analysis of Policy Design and Political Feasibility (Figure 2 in the Oliver reading) and John Kingdon’s Multiple Streams Model of Agenda-Setting and Policy Change (Figure 3 in the Oliver article).
