⦁ Purpose of the presentation
– Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurological and developmental disorder that affects how people interact with others, communicate, learn, and behave and can be diagnosed at any age known as a “developmental disorder”. Therefore, in the first two years of life symptoms appeared and it is known as a “spectrum” disorder because there is wide variation in the type and severity of symptoms people experience (Nimih.nih.gov).
– It is not only certain people of all genders, races, ethnicities, and economic backgrounds that can be diagnosed with ASD.
– It can be a lifelong disorder, treatments and services can improve a person’s symptoms and daily functioning. Therefore, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that all children receive screening for autism as well as caregivers should talk to their child’s healthcare provider about possible autism screening or evaluation (Nimih.nih.gov).
