simple questions in your topic proposal
a. What do you like about the literature?
b. What do you wish to know more about the literature?

come to mind?
2. Annotated Bibliography (1 page; single spaced)

vi. An evaluation of the research methodology (if applicable)
vii. Information about the author’s background
viii. Your personal conclusions about the source
3. Search for relevant literature – Before you start writing, look for scholarly
sources on the topic you intend to research. Here are some databases you can
search in
i. https://manoa.hawaii.edu/library/
ii. https://scholarspace.manoa.hawaii.edu/
iii. https://eric.ed.gov/ (for sources on education)
iv. https://www.jstor.org/ (make sure you log in with your UH user by

4. Evaluate sources – Be mindful!

i. Is this person a credible source?
ii. What are their biases?
b. When was it written?
i. This is important because we need up to date information. Views
and opinions change over time. We learn new things as time
moves on.

genealogy, respect those who came before us, and pay homage to their knowledge.
