Description
Guidelines
The assignment is to choose social psychology topics that are discussed in class and to write about how they relate to events in your working life. Specific topic suggestions are listed to help you, but you are by no means limited by them.
You may choose as many or as few topics as you wish.
You may select any process, phenomenon, theory, or psychological tendency that is relevant to social psychology. Each of the social psychology topics you use should be defined and correctly cited.
The assignment should then describe events or interactions in your work life. Pick specific events or interactions and describe them in enough detail so that your subsequent discussion will make sense to someone who was not there. Write about events that you are comfortable discussing.
You can also discuss an event that seems to be inconsistent with the topic you have chosen to write about.
In such cases, you might also want to consider the following questions:
• How was this interaction inconsistent with the theory or phenomenon you have chosen?
• Why do you think the outcome of this interaction seems to be inconsistent with the phenomenon you chose?
Explain how the experience you describe is an example of the topics you have defined. Discuss how the specific topics you have chosen are relevant to this event. Your discussion should address some of the following questions:
• How can the psychological phenomenon you have chosen be seen in this interaction?
• Does social psychology theory influence the way you interpret what happened during this event?
• How will your learning about this phenomenon influence your attitude or behaviour in the future?
