Pitch Letter – instructions
As a PR professional, it will be your job to promote your organization or client to the public. This requires a strong relationship with the organization/client as well as enhanced networking skills.
As you develop your network, you will have opportunities to pitch ideas to reporters and journalists about your organization/client. It is critical for you to be prepared to write a pitch letter.
Therefore, this assignment provides you with an opportunity to practice and receive feedback to develop your writing and pitching skills.
Instructions:
Draft a pitch letter in a properly formatted email (approximately .5 page) to promote a client of your choice.
Select a client of your choice and a media outlet of your choice (magazine, newspaper, talk show, podcast, etc.), and draft a pitch letter email to promote that client’s new product, business, project, etc.
A few items to keep in mind:
⦁ Follow the sample/template found provided in the formatting section below
⦁ Think about what creative pitch angles will help to attract media attention. What is newsworthy about your “pitch?” Why should the readers/reviews/listeners of this media outlet care?
⦁ Remember to provide some background information about your client to help build their credibility
⦁ Remember to describe (in a couple sentences) what your client is promoting and when it comes out. This helps the reporter know when to run their story.
