Students will imagine that they are proposing the acquisition of a modern artwork for a museum. The proposal will consist of a close visual analysis and anargument for the significance of that particular work.
WHY is this work important to the history of modern art? HOW does it expandour understanding of art, culture, and history? When a museum acquires a work, they commit to caring for it in perpetuity in the public trust.
Therefore, these decisions are not made lightly. The works must hold cultural significance and have educational and aesthetic value for the community, whether it is a local community, national community, global community, or academic community.
