Project management, Contracts and Liability (100 Marks)
a. Students are acutely aware of the need to manage competing constraints of their studies, work, family, and friends. The knowledge and skills gained in project management assist project planning to complete tasks at hand.
Given the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) information in the following table (see part b.), you are required to draw a network diagram (CPM network diagram) using the ‘Activity-on-Node’ method for clarity, by
illustrating the critical path, project completion time, earliest and latest start/finish times. (25 marks)
b. Compile a Gantt Bar chart of the WBS illustrate the tasks/durations/critical path and the free float in the project. (25 marks)
c. On a Sunday, a graduate surveyor is asked by an acquaintance up the road from their home to set out a boundary fence line. The surveyor using the boss’s equipment and company branded vehicle and plans provided by the acquaintance completes the job and personally receives cash payment for their services on the day. Unfortunately, due to a chain of circumstance the fence was erected in the wrong place due to an errant survey stake.
The fence and garage that were subsequently constructed need to be shifted. The graduate’s boss is being sued for the negligence of their employee by the acquaintance. Discuss whether vicarious liability for the negligence of employees attaches to the employer in this situation. (25 marks)
d. Critique the following invitation to tender advertisement and suggest up to five errors, omissions or changes to the advertisement. Up to 200 words.
