Discuss the source’s strengths and weaknesses. For instance, does the item offer a good introduction to the issue? Does the item deal with a particular aspect of the issue that is unique or shocking? Is the author highly credible?

ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY ASSIGNMENT

This assignment asks you to summarize and reflect critically on at least five highly
credible, relevant sources.  note that an annotated bibliography is nothing like an
essay. I have provided several resources for you in the Annotated Bibliography Module,
including a sample annotated bibliography.

Step one for this assignment is conducting research. While you are welcome to use
Google, I strongly encourage you to instead use the College’s databases. The databases
have a huge variety of information available, but they also filter out a lot of the “junk”
that Google does not.

Step two is to thoroughly read and then summarize the sources that you select. I have
provided information about writing summaries in the Annotated Bibliography Module.
Most importantly, A SUMMARY IS A BROAD OVERVIEW OF THE SOURCE AND
IS WRITTEN ENTIRELY IN YOUR OWN WORDS.

Step three is to use the OWL website to help you put together the MLA 9th edition
formatted citations for each of your five sources.

Lastly, your job in this annotated bibliography is to educate yourself and readers about
the topic that you chose. Your annotated bibliography should use sources that are neutral and that inform readers of the significance of the event.
SOURCES

Your bibliography should contain five entries , and should meet the
following criteria:
You must include a variety of information kinds .
Do not include encyclopedia or dictionary entries
Limit the number of sources from the internet. For all internet you must determine the credibility of the source and explain this
credibility in your annotation.

FORMAT
For each of your sources, you should include an entry with relevant publication
information in MLA format. Use the OWL website for examples of how to create
citations.
ANNOTATIONS
Your annotations for each of your five sources should do the following:
Summarize the source.

Rely almost entirely on your own words and phrasing—use summary and

paraphrase. DO NOT USE DIRECT QUOTE IN AN ANNOTATION. DO
NOT USE STATISTICS OR OTHER KINDS OF DATA THAT YOU HAVE
PULLED FROM THE SOURCE. A SUMMARY IS AN OVERVIEW.
Discuss the source’s strengths and weaknesses. For instance, does the item
offer a good introduction to the issue? Does the item deal with a particular
aspect of the issue that is unique or shocking? Is the author highly credible? Is
this source a good fit for your target audience’s needs
