disabilities may present deficits in cognitive functioning and/or adaptive behavior. An
integrated perspective on these exceptionalities will help you have a better understanding of
the students you may serve as an educator.
Research the following characteristics of individuals with intellectual and developmental
disabilities:
Cognitive
Language and communication
Social and/or behavioral
Academic learning
